ScoreLM vs SportsEngine

SportsEngine is the incumbent — a sprawling desktop-first platform with a big feature checklist and a matching price tag. ScoreLM is the modern alternative — mobile-first admin, live scoring on the iPad, broadcast overlays for OBS/vMix, and a branded per-league site — priced per league, not per participant. Leagues that don't need compliance modules and enterprise breadth get faster software for less money.

Why leagues pick ScoreLM

What ScoreLM doesn't try to be

If any of these are the core problem you're solving, we're not the tool:

If those aren't core to your operation, dragging around an enterprise platform to run a league is expensive.

Feature-by-feature

Site building approach

SportsEngine gives you a website builder — components, drag-and-drop, hours of setup, and the finished product still looks like a SportsEngine site. ScoreLM generates your league site automatically from your data: teams, players, games, standings, brackets, media — themed to your brand. You don't build the site; the site is your data.

Ticketing

ScoreLM ticket revenue goes directly to your league's own Stripe account — you control refunds and reporting from your own Stripe dashboard, and payouts hit your bank on Stripe's normal cycle. SportsEngine routes payments through their platform's payments layer, which slows payout and adds a middleman between you and your revenue.

iPad admin

ScoreLM's admin console was designed for a phone or an iPad on the sideline. Score-keepers, refs, and league operators can run a whole game without a laptop — game clock, box scores, roster substitutions, scorebug control, gate scanning. SportsEngine's admin was designed desktop-first and hasn't caught up.

Product scope

SportsEngine tries to be the entire back office for a youth sports organization — registration, compliance, insurance, background checks, federation integrations, CRM. ScoreLM is deliberately focused on running the league: the site, the games, the stats, the brackets, the tickets, the broadcast. If you want a checkbox for every conceivable adjacent feature, SportsEngine has that. If you want great software for the actual job of running a league, focused wins.

FAQ

Is ScoreLM a full replacement for SportsEngine?

For running a league — teams, players, seasons, games, stats, tournaments, tickets, the branded public site — yes. ScoreLM does core league operations end-to-end. Compliance modules like background checks are a separate category we don't try to be, and most leagues that need those handle them through third-party tools anyway.

Can SportsEngine do broadcast overlays?

No. SportsEngine doesn't do live scoring, broadcast scorebugs, or courtside iPad workflows. Those are core ScoreLM.

Does ScoreLM support youth leagues?

Yes — youth, high school, adult, and pro-adjacent leagues all run on ScoreLM across multiple sports. The platform is sport-agnostic and works at every scale.

How does pricing compare?

SportsEngine takes a cut of registration fees plus platform charges — cost scales with your participants and can climb fast. ScoreLM prices per league, flat. A bigger season doesn't automatically mean a bigger bill.
